Years of search history on a site that was slow on a phone

Pro Wet & Dry already ranked: eight service pages and 38 blog posts brought in Northern Beaches cleaning searches, with links from old directory listings and an even older site behind them. The WordPress install was slow on phones, carried out-of-date promotions, and had drifted from the business's current Google listing.

Most people looking for a carpet cleaner, or a flood clean-up, are on a phone. The two things they do are call or book, so both had to be on every screen.

The business also had a publishing service posting new guides on a schedule. That had to keep working without any change on their side.

The goals

  • Keep the same URLs, titles and descriptions, and redirect everything else
  • Be fast on a phone
  • Put Call and Book online on every screen
  • Line the site up exactly with the Google Business Profile
  • Keep the blog publishing on its existing schedule

Light, white and airy, in the colours of the swirl

The original logo was kept, not redesigned, and its purple and magenta became the palette. The site is light and clean: the visual opposite of a dirty carpet.

Palette

  • #4b338e Brand purple Primary colour, buttons, the browser theme colour
  • #21154a Deep purple Headings, the footer and dark bands
  • #eeeaf7 Soft purple Tints and alternate section backgrounds
  • #e0127f Magenta From the logo swirl: highlights and calls to action
  • #b00d61 Magenta for text Magenta text and hover states, contrast-safe
  • #fde9f3 Magenta tint Badges and soft panels
  • #1d1830 Ink A purple-tinted near-black, so text sits in the palette
  • #e6e1f0 Lines Card borders and dividers

Shapes follow the same idea: generous 18px rounded corners, soft purple-tinted shadows and a gentle lift on hover. Round, soft shapes suit a business that cleans fabric, cushions and couches.

Typography

Headings

Outfit

A friendly geometric sans at weights 600 to 650. Self-hosted as one variable file of about 29 KB, preloaded with the exact URL the stylesheet uses so it downloads once.

Body text

System UI

Fast, familiar reading on every device, with nothing to download.

Two separate Arial fallbacks were tuned, one for regular weight and one for bold, so headings wrap to the same lines before and after the font loads.

Pages, photos and mobile

A home page that sells the visit

Photo hero with Book online and the phone number, three trust points, a stats band, the suburbs served, eight service cards, and live Google reviews.

Flood recovery gets its own band

Water damage needs a fast call, so it has a dedicated section on the home page rather than being one card among eight.

Guides with somewhere to go

A new, paginated Tips & guides index for a blog that never had one, and every guide ends by pointing to the service it relates to.

The business's own photos

Job photos from the old site, reprocessed: cropped, renamed descriptively, given real alt text, and stripped of location data, since they were taken in customers' homes.

Call and Book on every phone screen

A sticky bottom bar on every page, compact horizontal service cards and a full-screen menu.

Two numbers, clearly labelled

One for new bookings and quotes, one for customers already booked, so existing customers are not stuck behind new enquiries.

Plain files, and the old publishing workflow intact

Hand-written PHP 8.2 with no CMS, database or framework. Site facts, services, suburbs, FAQs, testimonials and redirects live in plain data files; each guide is its own file at its original URL.

The blog keeps publishing

The service the business already used to post new guides talks to the new site through a compatible endpoint. New images are converted to AVIF and WebP automatically and each new URL is submitted for indexing.

Booking straight into the job system

Book online hands off to the business's ServiceM8 booking page, saying so and opening in a new tab, so requests land in the system the team already runs.

A quote form without a CAPTCHA

Spam traps instead: a signed time token, a honeypot, an origin check and a rate limit, with a thank-you page to confirm every send.

Live reviews with a fallback

The Google rating and latest reviews are fetched on the server, shown unfiltered as plain text with initials; if the feed is unavailable, the site's own testimonials show instead.

Fast on a phone

Inline critical CSS, one preloaded font, AVIF and WebP from 480 to 1600px, hero slides after the first held back until load, and pre-compressed assets.

2,600 checks on every change

An automated crawl that includes every legacy WordPress URL, so a redirect can never quietly break.

  • PHP 8
  • WordPress migration
  • ServiceM8 booking
  • Tap to call
  • Live Google reviews
  • RSS

Every page kept, and faster

  • 95+Lighthouse performance, mobile
  • 100Accessibility, best practices and SEO
  • 64Pages in the sitemap

Questions about the Pro Wet & Dry website

Question not here? Ask an engineer →

How did NGN move Pro Wet & Dry off WordPress without losing its Google rankings?

Every service page and all 38 blog posts kept their exact URLs, titles and descriptions, so Google saw the same pages, just faster. Around 1,844 old addresses (image files, feeds, plugin sitemaps, an older site's pages) were checked one by one and either redirected to their nearest new page or retired with a 410.

How does online booking work on the Pro Wet & Dry website?

The Book online button opens the business's ServiceM8 booking page, so a request goes straight into the job system the team already uses to schedule work. Customers who would rather talk can call, and existing bookings have their own number so they are not stuck behind new enquiries.

Why does the Pro Wet & Dry site not show a street address?

Pro Wet & Dry is a mobile service that comes to the customer, and its Google Business Profile is set up as a service-area business with no public address. The website matches that exactly (Collaroy, servicing the whole Northern Beaches), because a mismatch between the site and Google weakens local search.

Did the Pro Wet & Dry blog have to change when the site was rebuilt?

No. The guides kept their URLs, and the service the business uses to publish new articles connects to the new site the same way it did to WordPress, so new guides keep appearing on schedule. Each guide now ends by pointing readers to the related cleaning service.

What happens on the Pro Wet & Dry site if the Google reviews feed is unavailable?

The reviews are fetched on the server and cached, so a short outage is never noticed. If the feed stays unavailable, the home page shows the business's own testimonials in their place, so the section is never empty and nothing from Google ever loads in the visitor's browser.
